Today's mandatory meeting with upper management
We had a meeting today with all levels of Head Start leadership, from the local office up to state management. The discussion focused on the upcoming government audit and the rules and regulations governing Head Start and Lutheran Services policies, as well as child safety and the well-being of the children. They asked us if we had any questions.
I had a question and I raised a concern about classroom placement: our local Head Start office is placing 3-year-olds in the 4-year-old classroom. These children are just turning 3, are not potty trained, and are nonverbal. We already have 4-year-olds in a separate 3-year-old classroom. My question was why we cannot transfer the 4-year-olds from the 3-year-old classroom into the 4-year-old classroom, and vice versa—move the 3-year-olds (who are in the 4-year-old classroom) to the more age-appropriate 3-year-old classroom. The state-level upper management agreed with me.
However, the county management—our local Head Start management in the same meeting—opposed this stance and argued that I was wrong. They stated in the meeting that all of our classrooms have age limits for all ages, which I dispute. The local Head Start upper management and county management appeared to team up against me in questioning age-appropriate placement and the well-being of the children. They made statements intended to make me look bad.
