Urgent: Enrollment of a Child with Severe Egg Allergy – Safety and Operational Concerns for Head Start Placement

 We have a child with a severe egg allergy who is being considered for enrollment. The family has requested that a thickner to be added to all liquids to indicate this child’s medical needs. We have explained to Head Start that our center is not a medical facility, and we are concerned about the risk of egg cross-contamination. Our kitchen lacks a dishwasher, and we do not have enough staff to safely manage this situation. Despite our strong advisement against it, Head Start is still insisting on placing this child at our center.

Are we providing childcare for illegal aliens

Head Start requires a government-issued ID from parents in order for their children to enroll in the program. Currently, there is no requirement that the ID come from the United States; it can be from any government around the world. We have parents who have submitted passports from countries such as Mexico, Venezuela, Honduras, and others. This raises a question: if families are living in the United States, why don’t they have a state-issued government ID? When I raised this with Head Start, I was told that it is not their job to determine immigration status, and that it is not my job to question the government-issued ID.
